Three things we return to, again and again
Advanced playing is rarely about more notes. It is about how the body, the breath and the sound work together.
Breath & phrasing
Learning where the music breathes, so that long lines in Chopin, Schubert or Bach rise and settle naturally.
Posture & movement
Noticing tension in the shoulders, wrists, neck and back, and finding a way of playing that feels free and sustainable.
Touch & legato
Shaping the sound between the notes: how one tone passes into the next, and how a singing line is made.
Your teacher
Dr. Kim
“I have been teaching and walking alongside students at the piano since 1998.”
Selected as one of 32 pianists to perform Beethoven’s complete piano sonata cycle at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Beethoven Festival, Orchestra Hall, Detroit (2013), playing the complete “Hammerklavier” Sonata, Op. 106.
Lessons are personal and unhurried. We begin with the music you love and the questions you are already asking at the piano, and we work from there.
All lessons and classes take place online, so you can join from your own piano at home, wherever you live.
